Scraps of paper
By Alaina R. Alexander
Four months ago, I relocated from Minnesota to California. I spent my first month here struggling to get over the immense culture shock that I experienced. On top of which, I had mounds of paper scraps to contend with.
(Shame on me for not transferring everything into my planner and address book before I moved!)
These scraps of paper contained contact information for friends with whom I had recently reconnected with, along with the phone numbers of potential employers and vital job interview information. I was stressed out and not in the mood to deal with the growing paper scrap pile that was taking over my life.
A month later, I was gainfully employed and living in my own apartment. During this time, the paper scrap pile just kept on growing. My newly acquired second hand paper shredder stood in the corner unused. (I swear it was taunting me.)
I reached my zenith during Thanksgiving weekend and I spent at least five hours shredding and organizing the paper scrap pile. The paper scrap ordeal served as a reminder to me to take the time each day to stay on top of things.
