Equipment Equation
by Alaina R. Alexander

I have a confession to make ... I have been writing and blogging on a five year old computer complete with a $5 monitor (which I purchased at a thrift store last year).
I am scraping up to buy a new laptop, but in the mean time I will just make do with what I have.
When I first purchased my computer five years ago, it was an up-to the minute machine with loads of cool software. At that time, I primarily used my computer to check email and to catalog my books. I harbored a secret dream to take up writing, but I had every reason in the world not to submit articles. I remember staring at my then pristine computer and wondering when I was going to get the courage to actually use it.
How many of us find ourselves in the same boat as I was? We are surrounded by fancy equipment that we "need" to produce our art. Yet, we are not creating anything.

" I need to order gizmo X before I can get started on my big project."
More time goes by and even more money is spent.

Equation:
Equipment - Drive + Fear = Overcrowded closet and/or garage

In other words, don't wait for divine inspiration or new equipment to bring you the desire to create.
