Big Ticket Items
by Alaina R. Alexander

Okay, next month I am finally getting a car! It's hard to believe that I have lived in LA for a month and a half without having a car. Fortunately, I live 3 blocks away from work and their is a bus line in my neighborhood. Still saving up the seed money has been a challenge even for a die-hard frugality person like me. I have active daydreams about spending my deposit money on a new wardrobe. Alas, I have successfully fought off the temptation to squander the money away.

Below are tips for staying on track when you are trying to save for big ticket items:

1. Figure out the exact amount of money you will need to save up and then add $250 to the grand total.

2. Pick a small item to splurge on each week (no more than $5).

3. Write a couple of paragraphs on the importance of your intended purchase. Then taped it on your refrigerator, put it in your glove compartment or in your desk at work.
