Turning your Tenement into a Cozy Atmosphere

When you are getting started out in the big bad world, the last thing on your mind sometimes is the state of your home décor (or lack thereof). Your primary focus is making a name for yourself and keeping the bills paid. Which are noble goals, but by the time you reach your late twenties it can become quite obvious to you that eclectic/cast-off décor is more shabby than chic.
Unfortunately, you don’t have a lot of money to spend or time to get everything organized.

Here are some tips for adding a bit of polish to your humble surroundings:

1. Choose a simple 2or 3 color palette for your dwelling.
2. Slip covers can bring a new life to chairs and couches.
3. Trade in your futon mattress on the floor for a full or twin sized bed
4. Bring uniformity to your bedroom by using a bedskirt, comforter or quilt and a matching sheet set. You can usually purchase all three of these items at discount stores and outlets for under $100.
5. Accent rugs add a dash of color to an otherwise boring room.
6. Trade in your egg crates for a wooden or metal bookcase. (These can usually be found at thrift or discount stores).
7. Read books and surf the Internet to get ideas for your home décor.
8. Start your décor makeover slowly.
